Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts at mainstream stardom were fruitless with two separate record labels signing and then dropping her before the release of any music. However, in 2007, Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted only a little attention because of its playful title track. I Loved a Girl a straightforward ode to sexual curiosity, backed by the beat of a hardedged electropop brought her more attention just a few months after. I Kissed a Girls was immediately a hit but it quickly sparked controversies. Some critics claimed that the song promoted same-sex sexual relations however others believed that the scene that depicted in it appealed more to male fantasies. I Kissed a Girl was an instant hit on Perry's album The One of the Boys in 2008, thanks to the combination of sexual enthusiasm and polished music. With its bouncy sharp-tongued song, the second Hot N Cold also proving to be a hit, the album which Perry created herself ultimately registered greater than three million copies in the United States.
